EMDR Therapy
An evidence-based psychological treatment used effectively by psychologists and psychiatrists internationally for more than 30 years.
What is EMDR Therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychological treatment in which bilateral stimulation (usually through eye movements) is used to process traumatic memories which allows normal healing from symptoms and emotional distress to occur.
EMDR Therapy effectively helps your brain to join the dots of a neural network, so it recognises an event is in the past rather than still occurring in the present.
EMDR Therapy considers all emotional, psychological, and behavioural difficulties are 'stuck' or 'frozen in time', or ‘unprocessed’ memories.
EMDR Therapy goes beyond “scratching the surface” of symptoms. The approach changes the way the brain processes information and experiences. Once an issue has been fully reprocessed and healing has taken place, it is unlikely to re-arise in the future.
EMDR Therapy has been referred to as an “accelerated emotional processing method”, as it has been clinically shown to produce results within a shorter time than many other traditional therapeutic approaches.

Tamara uses EMDR Protocol & EMDR 2.0
Tamara primarily uses standard EMDR protocol and EMDR 2.0, which enhances the standard EMDR protocol through a range of working memory taxation tasks. These treatments can be delivered blind to therapist, which means that you do not have to talk about the memories.
Clients act as co-therapists, working collaboratively with Tamara to build an EMDR adaptive information processing (AIP) informed case conceptualisation and treatment plan. At this stage, we also identify what skills are needed to best prepare you for trauma treatment, which can include informed parts work and grounding exercises to learn ways to regularly move into your window of tolerance.
Tamara draws on a range of EMDR approaches to desensitise and reprocess flashbacks, current triggers, and flash forwards, which reduces the vividness and distress of these mental representations.

Dr Roger Solomon, a leading Psychologist in the field of EMDR Therapy suggests:
“Talking helps, but does not seem to get to the part of the brain where the memory is ‘frozen’. This is why distressing events continue to be experienced and relived, despite telling the story or talking about it. These experiences are living in ‘trauma time’ and may continually be re-experienced. EMDR Therapy is a therapeutic approach that goes ‘beyond words’ to resolve the memories that get stuck.”
